A long long time ago....

We had promotional posters like this!

The Gazelles of 2011

Quite possibly some of the FIRST ever Gazelles, these photos were posted February 28th, 2012, and taken some time before then, likely fall 2011.

Advice from the Players of the Past

Some of our previous Harbingers have left messages for future survivors. Here they are!

Tori
September 5th, 2014

Sometimes I wonder why we continue to fight. The zombie numbers keep growing with seemingly no end. The weak have been taken or died out among us, leaving only those with the will to survive. But even that's not enough at times. There is always talk of a cure, or a plan to exterminate all of the vile undead, but it's hard to know if the rumors are true or not.

Still, we must go on. For if they are true, and the monsters can be eliminated, then humanity must survive to rebuild. I believe in our factions. The Resistance members are strong and smart. I have hope when I see the fire in their eyes.

For anyone who may find this, remember what we have learned.

1. Stick together.  Loners may go by unnoticed during the daylight, but during the zombie hunting hours in the dark of night only the groups survive.

2. Check your back. Then check again. Keep checking. You never know when one of those monsters will sneak up on you.

3. Work together.

4. Always carry socks. If your blaster jams during a night mission, you'll always have a way to defend yourself.

5. Stay alive.

Dunamis Fatalis, AKA Fate
September 2nd, 2014

Memories of the never-ending war against zombies came to me again today. I was very surprised at the organization level of the zombies at Utah State University. The zombies' coordination seemed daunting at times, but my force was impressive. Their fearlessness, innate skill at being quick while stealthy, and ability to maneuver new tactics against an almost indomitable threat set them apart from all other survivors I have known.

I believe many more survivors have that same potential. I hope I am able to find more survivors with the same skills to help combat this eternal war.

To those who read this, remember, the first sign of giving up is losing that inner desire to stay Human and alive. When times get tough I repeat "Veni, Vidi, Vici." in my mind to set me straight.

Fight on Comrades!

Commander Sparkles

Commander Sparkles, also known as Steven Collins, was an unforgettable part of our playerbase, and was sadly lost during the pandemic. In his honor, we keep the Sparkles Armor (debuted September 2013) in our club, and we will soon be making a pattern for any who would like to make their own version.

Thank you, Sparkles. For everything.

When Commander Sparkles was tagged, he was known to give out special cards, pictured here. These were given to Sean Schilling and Rebbecca Hall during his time playing the game.

Story Corner

These are stories from our past, from players and harbingers alike. HVZ is a game where you are guaranteed to come away with a story - stories that I firmly believe we should celebrate

This document details the relationship between the Harbingers characters. Author uknown.

How Discord changed the face of HVZ forever.

Zombie Cuddles - By Alissa (Red)

Red created the Zombie Cuddles picture book for Survivors daughter, and gave them a physical copy. She has been kind enough to send us the files so we can experience zombie cuddles too! The story inspired by a conversation that happened over Discord, and was doodled over the course of a few days. This story features many familiar faces, including the “reanimated corpse”, which was Salty BEFORE he got his nickname!

Bounties (The Tale of the Hit List)

The idea of the Hit List was originally created by Reyna (Little Dragon), who was the Zombie Harbinger at the time. The Hit List was a list of 3 people that Little Dragon wanted killed and zombified. At the time, there was no reward for these kills besides bragging rights.

When Ali, Red Devil, became the next Zombie Harbinger, she brought the Hit List to a whole new level. She created wanted posters and placed bounties on the heads of those on the Hit List.

Cabbages holds the record for the best bounty ever, as he placed a bounty on HIS OWN head and offered an Avatar, the Last Airbender box set (DVDs) for whoever could kill him.

The tradition of placing bounties on players heads is still alive, assigned each game by the Zombie Harbinger.
